As linux-gamers.net (http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2459) pointed out: the linux demo for Ankh2 is available for download via torrent (http://liflg-tracker.death-row.org/torrents/ankh2-linux-x86-demo.bin.sh.torrent), thanks to liflg (http://www.liflg.org/) for hosting it.

Over here it works quite well and it allows some 20mins of gameplay. Not really much, but enough to see if it runs on the hardware/software combination you have.

A smart move putting out a demo. Always nice to see what a game is like & to confirm that it runs on the system specs you have. :)

A word of caution
I played this demo for a few minutes (IBM T60 notebook with ati x1400). After I finished, it didn't automaticaly get me back to my default resolution but I was left with the one I set in the game menu (1024x) and what's worse, it fucked up my tracpoint (I could click, but not move) so I couldn't navigate etc. It took me a few minutes to get my system back on track. Grrreat.

I tried it last night but had loads of graphic glitches. No good for me.

GLIBC_2.4 error on Debian etch, they should compile the game on an older plattform like Debian etch to get rid of this error.

Out of curiosity what graphics card and driver are you using?

ROFLMAO!

Either that, build with a cross-compile toolchain, or use autopackage's apgcc/apg++ tools to make it fixed to the 2.1 ABI. In the end, there's always SOMETHING, isn't there?

Right I just tried Ankh 1 and 2 and I also get corruption. I managed to get around it but downgrading the nvidia driver to 169.12 I'll have a look and see if it is a known bug tomorrow and report it if not.

It didn't like my laptop (ATi X1200), I could see the initial Deck13 logo, but nothing else.

could you check whether under the settings option you have shadows & effects on or not; if they are on could you try turning them off? I say this because I've been playing around with Ankh 1 and 2 to see what causes the corruption and with 1 having the shadows on causes the screen to go complete black aside from the text and effects makes it go white (both on the newest nvidia drivers and 169.12).

Problem is, past the Deck13 logo, I see absolutely nothing. I have the sound of the game, though.

Oh right when it happened to me I could still see the text. If you still want to give it a shot change line edit ~/.Ankh2/settings.ini fullscreen_fx_enabled (line 22) needs to be set to false and shadow_texture_size (line 72) needs to be 0.

Hmm... I don't seem to have that file... Could you send it to me (thetargos at gmail dot com)? Thanks.

Does anyone have this demo on http instead?

Were you able to get the demo to run properly?

No I get the same problem, upon checking the logs, it appears that the program is failing to compile some CG programs.

Worked great here, just needed to use a workaround for the loki installer not liking 64bit.

I can't get past the first scene though.., :(

I had to install using "linux32 ankh2-blah-blah-demo.run" for it to properly install on my 64-bit machine, but still I couldn't get it to run (I can only get to the Deck13 screen, then all is black (or the Deck13 logo is flashing dimly in the background). All I could get from the logs was the afore mentioned problem with some CG programs (apparently)and even that was a bit scarce as the only error es something like "Compiler found an error" or something to that effect. When I get back home I'll post what it was exactly.

I actually have the full game. The problem is that for some odd reason, on my ATI x1600 mobility it works perfectly, always has. but on my 7800GT desktop it worked (albeit very slowly and with lots of glitches), but on my mom's NV 6600 (the original machine I got it for) the game had all of the mentioned issues. It would misbehave badly, if it worked at all.

I finally got it working by running the beta 177.13 drivers. (Those drivers seems to run considerably slower than any of the other drivers, but work perfectly with that game)

So, for once the problem is the NVIDIA drivers.

I don't know. I played the demo and it's left me in the cold. Technically, they did a good job, I think. The game though, isn't as I hope it would be.

It isn't a bad game but compared to some of the amazing adventure games around (and graphics in an adventure game aren't all that important really) it is lacking. As for the port if you compare it to LGP games it is lacking; although I am grateful for the linux versions.

Yeah, I understand that too. So, I think it's really going to cater to a group of people. I'm just not into these comedic stuff and cutsy adventure games. I hope they get better games soon. I'd love some more serious games on the plate.
