Hi

I'm considering getting a 8800 GT or GTX for my new noiseless computer that I'll build with a X48 motherboard, Intel C2D Q9550 CPU, 750W Thermaltake PSU, Antec P182 and Noctua 120mm fans for chassis and CPU cooling.

So what I want it on that doesn't make my computer noisy. :) I mean under normal usage I don't want the fan to be heard. Under gaming it is ok if there is some noise...

Are there cards which are very silent or must I modify the fan?

Am I right in skipping the 9800 cards? They are at more or less the same price, but people say that they are just rebranded 8800 cards.

I can tell you the 8800GT with the stock fan is anything but quiet whne it heats up.

That's clear, the 8800 GTS 512 has at least a double size cooler.

Although I can't comment on the 8800GT/GTS the 8800GTX is far from quite in my experience. If you really want a quite card grab a Accelero S2 (http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=125) and passively cool a 8800GT/GTS (doesn't fit on the GTX or old GTS cards sadly).
