I'm looking for a low-end video card to drive a 30" monitor at 2560x1600 and a 24" monitor at 1920x1200, both DVI. Ideally it would be a silent video card. It is not for gaming. It also needs to be ATI. I'll be running linux (Debian sid).

The Asus EAH3650 range looks like it fits the bill, except that Asus's web page on the products says silly things like:
"Single dual-link DVI output which supports 2560 x 1600 at 30Hz resolution displays"

30Hz? I don't know what they meant to say, but it looks like all the online shops have just cut'n'pasted this. So it's hard to get the real information on this.

Technically 1920x1200 needs dual-link, but I've got away with single-link ATI cards before, so I'm wondering if this "Single dual-link" part means the other port will be single-link, and will it then be able to drive 1920x1200 like most other single-link DVI cards can, at the same time as a dual-link 2560x1600 display.

Other 3650 cards from other manufacturers are not silent, so I'll only go with them if the silent ones cannot drive my monitors.

So, my question is, will this card (any in the range) support my monitors? And will open source linux drivers support it too?

I did some searching on this and didn't find any passively cooled ATI 3650 cards with two Dual-link DVI outputs. But I did see ATI 4xxx series card that meet that criteria.

As for driver support, I believe Phoronix had reviews of of some 4xxx series cards recently that talked about the various open and closed source ATI Linux drivers.

Have you tried the HD4550 ? I think the 512MB version can do what you want, and if I remember right, its cheaper than HD3650 and consumes lesser power.

Just to follow up to complete this thread, I found a vendor that would sell me an Asus HD3650 and return it if it did not work.

I can say that it did not work. When running the 30" on dual-link, the second monitor would just say "unsupported mode" (or similar). There seemed to be no settings I could use that would make it display anything - not even running the 30" at 1920x1200, or even both 30" and 24" at 1680x1050.

I have returned that card and got a Gigabyte HD3650 instead. While it does have a fan, I cannot hear it over the other fans/HDDs in the case, so I guess the fan did not matter after all.

The Gigabyte correctly detected both monitors and drove them without any problems. The only problems I have now are more to do with xrandr 1.2 and getting a suitable setup going. I'd prefer to just use two screens (:0.0 and :0.1) but it seems that's not supported any more.
