Phoronix: CodeWeavers Giving Away CrossOver Tomorrow
Tomorrow for one-day only CodeWeavers will be giving away their CrossOver Office software for free. No, this isn't just the demo copy or some version bugged with limitations, but due to a challenge they started in July, they will be giving out copies of CrossOver Office and CrossOver Games for free for one day...

They have source code downloads on their website if you know where to look (I don't. I lost the link.) Any difference between the source and the commercial version will be stuff that doesn't affect the compatibility but does make it prettyful.

I have a proxy server, US based, which I can enable / disable in Opera with a single mouse click :)
Quote from the press release:
"On Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, any one visiting the CodeWeavers' Web site (www.codeweavers.com) will be given a deal code that will entitle them to one free copy of CodeWeavers' award-winning CrossOver software. Each copy comes complete with support"
Where on the site does it say this is only for americans?

In the press release it says:
software developers CodeWeavers, Inc., to provide free software for every American on Oct. 28, company officials reluctantly announced today. However later on it says:
"I launched the campaign to inspire President Bush to make the most of his final days in office. Who knew that our Challenge would have this kind of impact on the country?" White said. "On the other hand, who knew that the economy would implode, causing oil demand to drop into the abyss and gas prices to plummet as well. Clearly, investigating Bear Stearns, AIG and those guys is misplaced – CodeWeavers is responsible for this mess. So it's free software for all!"Seeing that the World had more to do with crushing the economy it would be only fair that the world reaps the rewards. Guess we will have to see tomorrow.

Heh, digg brings another site to it's knees
Main Website Temporarily Offline
Due to the high volume of traffic for the Lame Duck Challenge Free Offer (http://lameduck.codeweavers.com/), we have temporarily disabled the CodeWeavers main website.
We apologize for this inconvenience. We still love Digg, even if our server disagrees. ;-)
Click Here (http://lameduck.codeweavers.com/free/) to get your serial number for CrossOver.
Trial Version Downloads
You can still download the the trial versions during this time. Use the links below.
Download CrossOver Mac Pro Trial (http://media.codeweavers.com/pub/crossover/cxmac/demo/crossover-pro-demo-7.1.0.dmg)
Download CrossOver Games Mac Trial (http://media.codeweavers.com/pub/crossover/cxgames/demo/crossover-games-demo-7.1.0.dmg)
Download CrossOver Linux Pro Trial (http://media.codeweavers.com/pub/crossover/cxlinux/demo/install-crossover-pro-demo-7.1.0.sh)
Download CrossOver Games Linux Trial (http://media.codeweavers.com/pub/crossover/cxgames/demo/install-crossover-games-demo-7.1.0.sh)
Note: trial versions can be unlocked to full versions with registered accounts when the main site comes back online.
You will be able to unlock your serial number that was emailed to you for an extended time, (an additional 48 hours), due to this downtime. We will simply stop giving out new serial numbers at 23:59 (Midnight) Central Standard Time.

I don't understand their promo though because I tried registering a trial copy and they said it expired. Oops.

It worked here, grabbed the trial after creating the account, installed it, and then entered my email address and the password they gave me for the account.

I did the same thing except I changed my password and used my new password accordingly, which crossover did you use?
EDIT:
This is weird. I tried it again. I ran cxregister and it went to down.codeweavers.com (I saw a quick flash of that url), and then it said, registered! :S
What the hell.
More update:
Hehe... now it won't run at all.

I'm not exactly pissed that it's not working as expected. Nothing ever does. I did everything they asked and I have access to that new Codeweavers account and I entered the key when they asked for it. Doesn't work. Hehe. Fun while it lasted.

Hehe. In retrospect, they weren't really prepared for the bombardment they were about to receive. Their site really got dugg to the ground. :D

Amazing the power of the word "free". Especially when used as "free as in beer"

It's an installer that contains the commercially supported version of WINE, with fit and finish enhancements not in WINE, coupled with stuff not yet IN WINE. You need the serial number they will give you when you register with the other serial they gave you when you gave 'em your email address.

The current downloads are for the full unblocked releases of their software.
So, you don't need to register. Although I'd like to know that my registration indeed is valid.

Will Phoronix be doing a WINE to Crossover comparison? I'd be curious to see the extra features and performance differences.

Once the Phoronix Test Suite has WINE-driven tests.

I got a serial via email today, but when I plugged it into the site, it said it was for Mac versions. A boo boo?
Edit: I checked Crossover's forums and it seems everyone that hit the button twice or tried for both types got Mac serials, and a lot of folks who just hit the Linux button got Mac serials by mistake as well.

Just to let you know, I'm also a victim of that as well. I sure hope Codeweavers addresses your problem.

Why would you want to read it yesterday? The giveaway was "Lame Duck" because it was George W Bushes last year in office. That's not now.
I actually renewed my subscriptions yesterday, for an additional 2 years each.
