Open source ATI or official ATI drivers for best colors/graphics ?

I'm curious, what drivers (Official ATI or Open Source) would deliver the best colors and graphics detail, for 2D (photos and desktop) for a FireGL v7200 under Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid).
