Desktop compositing and Mesa

Hello everybody,

I have a question about desktop compositing like Compiz. It only work with accelerated driver. But why it can't work with mesa software implementation? It will have pretty poor performance but it still work, no?

the performance for a 3D-compositor would be too low to be usable.

Use a WM like Metacity or KWin if you want compositing without a 3D-accelerated driver.
