This game should be on anyone's list who cares the slightest about 3D and/or gaming on Linux. I may buy two copies :D.

For some reason I'm not all that keen on ut2k7. I think quake wars looks more fun, provided they worry a bit more about game play than just graphics. Either way, it will all pan out in the wash. ;)

has there been Solid confirmation that there will be a Linux Client? Or Will this be another Prey?
Even though I am confident there will be. just want to make sure Are they including the installer on the CD/DVD or will it be another download?

It's confirmation. I don't know if it will be a download or not.
Considered the popularity of ET. It's likely there will be Linux client eventually as many of the ET players (in Linux) will want to move on to ET:QW.

Well a Splash Damage guy said in an interview that they are working on it but that it will be released as a download some time after the retail release. i already preordered and i don't really mind playing on XP until the linux client gets released personally.

Gotta wait until the first check from my new consulting gig gets in, but yeah... And, I've finally got a laptop with enough ooomph to actually PLAY it with... :D (Well, it's the reason I'm a little short on budget- needed to buy it to do the new gig in the first place... >:-) )

Good luck on your new consulting work.
Thanks! The one that pays the bills will be doing scientific analysis software for spectrometers- stuff that is supposed to run on Windows, MacOS, and Linux, specifically. I need an OpenGL workhorse to do the work. Once that ball is rolling, I should be on to the next game porting project (Can't tell you all- but I will need the laptop since I'm still sort of on the road, and it's one that can do the work nicely enough... And hopefully we won't have a repeat of the logistics snags that plagued Ballistics and Bandits as a result... :D)

I doubt there will be a linux version made available at this point but SD is doing a Open Beta through fileplanet with keys to be sent out sometime this week. Sadly this probably mean release will be August at the earliest imo.

TTimo on the linux client http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/showpost.php?p=63146&postcount=12 (scroll down a bit) no client in the box :( to be expected i guess. On the other hand there definetly is a linux client . BTW the beta runs fine in Wine with some patches. And the game rocks imo.
I like the Beta but it needs some tweaks and fixes here and there. Vehicle driving feels a bit unrealisitc and some textures are much lower than other ones. But I think the release version will have these problems fixed and then there are no as may newbies as there are in the beta.

Newbies are a sure thing in the beta like you mentioned, since skill is not taken into account during the application process. Once the game is released the gaming community will segregate itself based on skill just like any other game.

There are no high rez textures in the game to preserve bandwidth. My biggest gripe with the beta is hitdetection bud SD already commented that that's a known bug. As for the newbies, "Attack the Objective" damn it

Quake Wars is now delayed until early September -- http://www.michaellarabel.com/index.php?k=blog&i=263
At least this will give NVIDIA and ATI more time for Linux driver optimizations.
Yes that's right and I bet AMD/ATI will optimize for this game in this new text file you've found with 8.39. Does it do anything at the moment or is it just a preparation for the new OpenGL driver?

Seems to be prep work.
With Beta 2 coming this week, I hope that Windows betatesters also get a chance to test a Linux client. Beta 2 has impressing changes btw..
DLing Beta 2 now. Too bad there's still no open Linux client. I could try playing it with Wine :P

There is a Linux beta client, it's just not open to everyone.
That's why I said "no open Linux client" :P
But fglrx would destroy my game experience I think, maybe that's why the Linux client is not open.

someone has a new beta driver
What do you thought why Michael is supporting AMD, Sun and creates community sites like this one? To get new roadmaps, betas and information. Yeah that rocks :D

Hmm.. This could mean something ;), getting me a little excited hehe.
To be honest, at first I thought "this is not a game made for me". I've never played ET, I had always prefered CS, and I have never played Quake (only Nexuiz here and then). But I loved the Battlefield Series and have 1942 and 2142. ET: QW is not easy if you only know Battlefield etc., but I now am really amazed of the game and think that I will buy the final version, which of course is in German, too :)
HL2 should get an OpenGL render and Linux support, because I have to be able to play www.kzmod.com ...
ET: QW is coming on the 28th of September for Europeans (yes :D) and on the 2nd of October for North Americans!
After 30 hard minutes, the Strogg were succesful at defeating their objectives.

Yes :P Trust me, it is worth the wait.
