I got radeon driver working yesterday and updates are nicely coming from tormod ppa. Tried radeonhd driver but it didn't start. Now i'm happy with radeon but firefox scrolling on 2nd user is awful. Who has logged in first gets better scrolling but on who logged in 2nd gets really lousy firefox scrolling. Any ideas.
Card: ati 2400hd.
OS: Jaunty Kubuntu.

2nd user doesn't get DRI which is limitation of current userspace driver system. So you have to logout from system instead of user switching. :(

Oh man. One thing is strange... this problem doesn't happen on konqueror or dolphin.
Logout is only option... switch user becomes useless in that way.
It didn't happen in previous ubuntu if i remember correctly.

Previous versions of ubuntu didn't support 2D or Xv on r6xx/r7xx chips so it was always software rendering.

I assume it's not just problem with firefox... opera would probably suffer same problem, right??
Maybe i should go back to previous kubuntu.
Any idea when this limitation is gonna be fixed??

Things might actually be different with Opera. The fact you have good scrolling in Dolphin and Konqueror would suggest this, since Firefox uses gtk2 and thus Cairo to render, while Opera, Dolphin, and Konqueror use Qt's drawing.

Maybe i'll try opera. New firefox (3.5) is coming wonder if that's gonna help on my problem.

One little thing to ask... is this problem only existing with ubuntu.
Like is suse or fedora suffering same problem?

The problem you describe is a limitation of X.org, so it doesn't matter what distro you use.

Nope, Opera uses fast QT toolkit.

The problem you describe is a limitation of X.org, so it doesn't matter what distro you use.Afaik reaches all the way to kernel, not just X.org. And yes, same problem should be on all distros for now. I got the idea the devs visioned a while ago a system where multiple users could all use DRM (It was both more powerful and complex than that but I don't remember what the graph I saw exactly said) and it would solve this problem but we still need to wait a while. Rest assured though, developers are aware of this issue. :)
