Phoronix: Launchpad Is Now Fully Open-Source Software
Last year on the 22nd of July we were covering the OSCON 2008 event. There really wasn't anything great about that year's open-source conference from O'Reilly (hence it's demise and conversion into LinuxCon in a different state), but Mark Shuttleworth was there and had keynoted at one of the evening events...

If this were any other distribution, Phoronix would have gone mental over the fact that it's only just become open source and made an article every few weeks over the last year entitled "WHY ISN'T LAUCHPAD OPEN SOURCE YET?".

..and no matter what piece of news appears on whichever website with a comment system, someone will complain about it :rolleyes:

Not complaining about this news item in particular, just Phoronix's blatant fanboy-ish attitude towards ubuntu.

Well, good on Canonical for open-sourcing it.
I don't know if anyone will take the source code and create their own mini-Launchpads (Launchpadette?). There's some good features there, but the interface is really pretty terrible.
