I'd like to request a key. S2 has a history of making really interesting and well balanced games despite their complexity. Hopefully they can pull of the DoTA style and make it more interesting than Stardock has.

Any idea about system requirements? Are Intel GPUs out of the question? ;)
Right now, it pretty much needs an ATI/NVIDIA card running the binary drivers (Radeon 9600 or newer/Geforce 5 FX or newer). With time (and driver maturity), it should run on some of the newer intel integrated cards (X3000 series and newer, I'm thinking).
(I don't need a key)

I am good with QA (that is to say I am quite destructive really), give me beta access and I shall do my best to make that bugtracker red hot.
Also I want to see how gameable this is on my netbook (don't ask why, ask why not)
Consider beta key requested.

Hi Phoronix Team,
it's very nice, that you made this possible, and for S2 it's very nice, that a site like phoronix spreads their news.
i've been playing Savage2 for several months and i also played Savage 1 sometimes, shortly before Savage 2 was released.
i totally enjoyed especially Savage 2, a very nice game, they put much effort and love into it: you can see this only by looking how often they updated the game (for free!). it's a nice, polished game with many small details which make it much fun to play.
i am looking forward for another wonderful S2 game, and that's why i really would like to get a beta key from you guys.
Thanks in advance!

I would like to request a beta key as well. I like using Linux, but have to use Windows for gaming since few games are natively running on other platforms. Therefore, I appreciate any effort taken to publish more native linux-games.
Always had fun playing DotA with friends, would be nice to try this game and see if it holds up!

Hey Michael,
Thanks for providing the opportunity to beta test a new Linux title! I do not have tons of free time but would enjoy trying to find bugs in the game. lets hope that my weak IGP HD3200 will cut it :/. Please provide me with a beta key.
Thanks!

It's somewhat of a shame that Linux gaming is still along the lines of us looking at every 'big' game release with our mouth watering so much that we start to drool...
I'm glad it's taking up lately, though. Let's hope the valve linux games will come at some point, too and a linux-version of the source-engine won't be a dream any longer.
I'm salivating at the prospect of trying a new *linux native* rts/rpg mix, so I'd like to request a beta key, too =)

I'd love a key too. I've been playing C&C Generals using Wine to get my RTS fix.
I love DOTA! I have a group of friends that gets together to play it every Sunday. I'd love to get in to this beta. I've been deply saddened by the issues I've had getting DOtA/War 3 to play nicely under my compiz / dual monitor setup *(side scrolling doesn't work when you scroll onto the next monitor). Ignoring that issue I still get artifacting and other problems about 3 minutes into the wined game. It'd be great to have a native game to play.

If there are still keys available I would like to take advantage of the opportunity to try out the beta. Other than mixed results with NWN my gaming has been purely Windows based so a good game on the Linux side would be great.

I will file a bug with Mesa later, hopefully S2 will be giving out beta keys to the developers too.

If the mesa devs want keys, just have them email slacker. Getting it into the hands of the developers who work on a platform you want to run on can only be a good thing ;).
From what I've seen, the white is just Mesa's shader compiler not liking the shaders in the game (preprocessor issues if I remember correctly). For what it is worth, ATI + OS X 10.4 also has issues with the shaders, but unlike Mesa's shader compiler, it doesn't throw any errors.

Well, if you can get more, I'd like to have one key.
We don't have many opportunities to play native games in Linux (I mean, big games) and that's a fortunate exception.
Just a suggestion. As you in Phoronix have a relation with the developers, I'd like to know their thoughts about gaming development in Linux compared to Windows, because probably a reason for the lack of good games in Linux is that it's much more difficult to develop for it given the possibilities that one has to take into account, specially with the different audio stacks and driver bugs.

Latest game I played natively on Linux was the Penumbra collection. Not a bad game, but there were some glitches and rendering artifacts.

I don't need a beta key as I already have one for a few weeks. Just wanted to say that S2Games really know how to program and support a game for the Linux platform. The game client is already very well polished, compared to some other games around and as I also like DotA, this game is simply amazing.
Just a hint for newcomers, try joining noob servers at all cost before running into trouble with stupid ignorant players on regular servers...

The Linux community has certainly come along ways since I first tried Linux with the now ancient Mandrake 8 and Red Hat 7.2 distros.
I've been a huge fan of the Unreal Tournament series in Linux but unfortunately it looks as if Linux support has been canned for UT3.
Heroes of Newerth looks like a great game and if anyone has an extra key, I'd love to give it a try if you want to PM me the key. :D

After being slightly disappointed at the playstyle of savage2 and being an enthusiastic savage: newerth player this latest S2 release is proving to be of great interest to me.
Phoronix has become a daily reader for me since i re introduced linux to my desktop several years ago and with the recent improvements to the environment (wine included) has convinced me i no longer need to dual boot windows on my nvidia based desktop or my ati based laptop.
Id love a chance to give this new S2 game a try and request a your consideration at receiving a beta key.

I read phoronix every day and a big fan of Linux. I would very much like to be a part of this history making linux game client. From what I've read it sounds like a lot of thought went into this game. I will definitely support this game by buying a copy of the retail version when it becomes available.
I would like to try the beta with a dual boot Fedora laptop with AMD dual core processor, 3100 graphics and 3G of ram. I'm amazed how well this machine plays most "normal" windows games. If these specs don't work well I can always play it on my desktop computer (HD3870 graphics).

I would love to try out the game as well.
I have not had the opportunity to play many Linux-native games and I'm not really a crazy gamer, but I always like to play new games.
Most of the time, I play games like Harry Potter or Sonic, but I have played a fair bit of FPS games. RPGs are one of my favorite genres of video games, but I love playing games of all types.
I'm an avid gamer on my Nintendo Wii, but I haven't played many games on my PC since Yggdrasil (my desktop) seems to freeze up when playing really intensive games. I'm hoping to upgrade it this year, given that Yggdrasil is four years old.
Also, my laptops Skuld and Belldandy are good enough for playing video games, so I play most of them on there.
I hope this game is great!

I would like to request a beta key. That said it is always refreshing to see a company taking Linux and it's users seriously. I've been using Linux and gaming on it for 12years now(wow I'm getting old) and it seems every year it gets a little bit better. Can't wait for "PC gaming" to mean more then "Games for Windows". Anyways, keep up the good work Phoronix!

It is great that companies like S2 support Linux with native linux clients. I would definitely like to get a beta key and test out the game on my hardware.
I always try to put my "money where my mouth is" and purchase any game I think I will enjoy the day the native Linux client is released. For UT2004 I pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition because they advertised Linux support in-the-box. Other native Linux games I own include Doom3 (and the ROE expansion pack), Quake4, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Darwinia, H-Craft Championship, and World of Goo (there are probably one or two more I can't recall). On some of these games I've saved money off the original Windows launch price because they were selling for less money when they finally released the Linux client. If this game is enjoyable and I can get it to run on my (admittedly very dated) hardware I'll buy it as soon as the Linux client is released.
I would like to know if the folks at S2 games think the Linux client for their games makes them money based on the straight-forward man-hours-spent versus revenue-generated calculation? I think there is a solid argument for supporting Linux even if it shows a small loss, because of the type of customer you are catering to with this work. I would suspect that many of the people who are gaming on Linux are also a big information source and the resident PC repair technician for family, friends, and co-workers. Targeting people like us can have a great word-of-mouth benefit, if I like this game enough to buy it I'll show it to my friends and try to help sell a few more licenses.
So, keep up the good work S2, and please send me a Beta Key.
Regards,
BadSquishy

I think though that they should have released the Windows and Linux versions at the same time. favouring over the other is always bad, be it Milli, Micro or Nanosoft!
Hi,
I'd like to get the key, too. I haven't played Savage 1 much myself, but I have two sons who are quite experienced with it and they would like to try out this new game. (I'm just their dad and a great Linux enthusiast who has installed Linux for them). Thanks!

Hi, I'd like to receive a key too.
My first touch with Linux gaming came back in 1999 when I first installed Linux in a local installfest. The distro was named SOT-Linux, a finnish clone of RedHat at the time. I remember getting atleast quake working. Then there were also various small games like xbill that I remember. Even though I fell in love with Linux from the start, it wasn't until 2007 that I finally gave up Windows totally. Since April 2007 Ubuntu has been the only OS on my computer. My gaming these days consists mostly of WoW and Diablo2 under Wine, and I've been requesting native titles of several popular games for Linux for years by signing petitions, posting on forums, etc.

First of all I'm a player like all of you, and I really like to spend hours playing alone, with friends or with friends trough Internet.
So I really hope I'll get a key, and I already left a messages to my friends to visit phoronix asap.
Next.
I totally agree with you, it's really awesome that industry take interest in linux more and more.
I think there's a real potential outside Windows world.
At the moment I play under Linux using wine, well is not that bad of course there's a lot of good work behind it. But it's always far away from a real native application.
I also bought World of Goo for Linux, which is really awesome :)
In my sens there's no reason that a game cannot be made for linux/windows/mac since the start of the development.
If they stop using directx and other OS dependent library this can change.
I mean all consoles support Opengl, Linux does, windows does and mac too.
And it's not only directx/opengl debate, there's a lot more efforts to be done, sound library, files managing, network etc...
For all problem there's a solution and multi platform solutions exist.
I can only encourage S2 by continuing showing the way to do it !
I just hope that is not isolated cases, and people like EA, SQuare, BioWare etc... will follow.
Because at the moment how dare can a decent player leave windows to it's favorite platform whitout having to leave about 50% of the games on the market.
So one big word " THANKS " S2 !
EDIT:
I would like to add that I perfectly understand developpers that get really mad when talking about what to use to dev multi platform.
What should they use for sound ? Open-AL ? ALSA, OSS, Pulseaudio etc.. Since a lot of linux distribution are doing what they want and are unable to use the same thing.
Ubuntu changed 2 versions ago to Pulseaudio, and if you take a look at their forums it not always work as it should..
TeamSpeak is still using OSS, so even if you play under Linux you still have to use other software or tricks to make TeamSpeak work.
I don't know what S2 choose to dev with (except opengl for 3D .. :P ) but perhaps shall they share their experience with other game developers, other people from game industry.
It will help showing them the way :)

As for me, I'm a big fan of S2Games.. played first Savage on Windows platform and also bought prime account for the Savage2, which I mostly play on GNU/Linux (x86_64). In addition I love playing RTS & RPGs so this one will be a great opportunity to try something new, though it's based on elder and functional DotA game mechanism. THX

I've been reading phoronix for a long time now, I'm a Linux user from Italy and I couldn't resist the temptation of a new native game...
I hope it's not too late to ask for a key, but even so I'm happy to have joyned the phoronix community :D

I'd like to request a game key. It would be so good if more companies supported linux when it comes to games. Although there are some good games for linux, it's still not good enough.
thank you
