Yeah, it's being discussed in this thread too:

It seems just as graphics on Linux is starting to shape-up, a lot of the big guys just can't wait to ditch us...

Oh well, I guess there will be a Rage port 5-6 years from now, if iD continues to release the source.

More like

Short version: Play Quake live to show the numbers and improve the non-nvidia driver situation and MAYBE a port will be done.

More then likely if you want to play Rage in linux in the future your going to be looking at a solution like this:

That was so simple because the Doom 3 engine runs since ages with wine. Just looked at the links above and i am confident now that wine devs will be able to get the binary running. D3 based games run very fast using wine, basically no diff to native code.

That was so simple because the Doom 3 engine runs since ages with wine. Do you think Rage is still OpenGL based for Win?

Maybe you missed where Carmack says:

The PC and Mac versions are still OpenGL 2.x.

I did put in a suggestion for Quake Live to have a billboard made to show the current stats of OS's in use.

You probably would get better replies if you contact TTimo or SyncError directly, as the quakelive boards are mostly made of windows players who couldnt care less.

If the stats are direclty sent to id then it would work, just showing the system icon like the player's country flag wouldnt do much of anything.
