For some time now I have been wondering what driver-hardware combination has best performance when only open source drivers are used? For example: has the R500-drivers matured enough so that R500-generation hardware can beat R300/R400-generation hardware? And what is the difference between Intel and AMD hardware when using open source drivers? And how do nv/Nouveau, Intel and AMD-open-source-drivers compare in 2D performance?
Is anyone else interested to see Phoronix do a test that explores these questions?
