Hello:

I haven't been able to get the OpenGL drivers to work for my Radeon x1400 notebook chipset. I have tried installing both the livna 8.29.6 drivers as well as the new 8.30.3 drivers. I've also used the reference xorg.conf file from the forums, but nothing seems to work! :(

I keep getting the following on running fglrxinfo:

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.1)

What am I doing wrong?! Am I missing something?!

Please help!

And thanks in advance! :)

Michael

Can you please post your X log? More information is needed to figure out where your problem is occuring.

hi:

Thanks for the reply... I'm kinda new to linux, could you tell me where to find the X log? I'll paste it here...

Thanks.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log

Paste the bottom half or where you see errors (EE).

hmm... from the second part, it seems like the DRI could not be initialized! Could someone tell me why this could be and what I should do to overcome this?!

Thanks!

Did you disable Composite?

trp12000
11-02-2006, 08:35 PM
also... when I'm installing the 8.30.3 drivers, the ati installer cannot recognize the version of X.Org. It says, "unknown version" or something along those lines...

I am using the reference Xorg.conf file that was posted in the forums... so that should be right, I think...

Don't use the graphical installer... that's your problem right there. From the terminal run sh ati-driver-installer-8.30.3.run --buildpkg Fedora/FC6

hmm... it says that it can't find the kernel-devel package... but it is installed... is there anything else that needs to be installed?

Also, I don't have anything in the /usr/src/linux directory... do I need to create a link from it to somewhere?!

I have a problem similar to this. Here is my Xorg.0.log towards the end (last 300 lines) where I start to get statements about a process, drmopendevice, getting errors.

To help summarize, I have the disable composite statement in my xorg.conf file. DRI attempts to log, and as you can see, the log stops abruptly right there. The comp hard crashes right there, and I have to comment out the disable composite statements in order to get X to start. Does anyone know what may be causing this and how to fix it?

I notice I get a warning in there, "(WW) fglrx(0): Option "UseFBDev" is not used". Is this a problem?

blario,

Composite needs to be disabled in order for fglrx to function. What graphics card are you using? if AGP based try adding Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "on" to your xorg.conf, or adjusting other options in there.

It's PCIE. Like I said, everytime I uncomment the disable composite lines, and try to start X, the comp hard crashes. I will try the AGP line right now for the hell of it. This is really driving me up a wall cause it seems like no one else has this problem. Here's the important parts of my xorg.conf for the hell of it as well. Thanks very much for the help!

Had you tried removing (or commenting out) some of the options in the xorg.conf so you have a very basic config, and then see if it works? Though the Xpress 200 is very notorious with the ATI drivers, so you may want to check on the BugZilla.

That describes my situation exactly, specific to the GPU & make&model of the comp. I'm looking more into it.
