From the other threads in the ATI/AMD Linux Forum, some of the unofficial names for the past driver releases has been:

8.38.6: The Least To Report On Driver In Two Years
8.38.6: Still no R600 or AIGLX Support
8.37.6: The no R600 or AIGLX Support Version
8.36.5: The Still no fglrx AIGLX Support Edition

Anyone want to guess what the next driver (fglrx v8.39) version will be called? The Driver That Still Lacks AIGLX and R600 support? 8.39: The Birth of AIGLX Support?

This thread may prove to be more interesting than yesterday's driver release for Fedora 7 users :D

seriously i'm totally dissapointed with ati's progress on linux. i really hope something good happens in some other development branch while those maintenance releases keep going out.

that's actually my last hope for ever seeing a functional driver from ati.

I bought a new laptop... :D I know, easier said than done, but...

I am getting a new laptop.

I tried one of those Dell Inspiron 640m (http://lenrek.wordpress.com/2007/06/18/24/), not bad, AIGLX + Compiz works fine, though not as good as my Desktop PC (http://lenrek.wordpress.com/2007/06/16/22/) (using an old NVIDIA GeForce4 MX4000) at home.

I should be getting a laptop that uses Intel GPU.

Why have different version numbers, just call them all The waiting game.

For me, AMD/ATI it's over, I'll buy what meets my requirements at the moment of purchase, not something that might do it sometime in the future.

Where would I send the output of atigetsysteminfo? Last night's attempt at using 8.39.4 calls for waaay more data than I could post here or paste into ATI's Linux feedback site.

BTW, I have no idea what "Textured Video" is exactly, but I think it is what crashed my X server when I had finished playing a Quicktime movie file using "xine -V Xv".
