Fair enough, he needs information. So what kind of information can people provide? Are we talking about dumps from people who are successfully using these graphics cards with the fglrx driver and an LCD panel? I have a laptop with an embedded FireGL 5250 (R530, I believe) which sort-of-works with the fglrx. Maybe if someone could provide a script that would generate the useful information then we could get the 0.1.0 release out the door after all?
What i need is a vbe modesetting bios dump for 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 (and for native resolution). For doing this grab http://people.freedesktop.org/~glisse/vbespy.tar.bz2 and make then ./vbetest 2> /dev/null note mode number corresponding to resoltuion 800x600 8:8:8 ... then q then
./vbetest -m <800600modenumber> 2> firegl5250-800x600
./vbetest -m <1024768modenumber> 2> firegl5250-1024x768
...
You should see some colored picture on screen. Once you got all dumps pack them together bzip2 and send them to me or put them somewhere on the net.
PS: You need to be root under console and it's better if X is not running and that fglrx is not loaded (in fact it's better doing them after cold boot without X being loaded so flgrx can't mess up with the card).

You where not under a terminal, you can't do this through ssh or under a console in X you need to be in text mode as without X running. See message at bottom of files you supplied. If it works you should see a picture on screen until you see no pictures on screen this means this does not work.

is there a need for/has someone already provided an x1300pro dump? if not, i'll put my card back in and do it (using x300se right now, with opensource drivers).

This is for a x1400. I uploaded the bz2 here (http://www.cesarolea.com/descargas/x1400.tar.bz2)
When I did the one for 1280x1024 it didn't work (no colored screen) and I couldn't find the resolution I'm using right now: 1280x800 (widescreen laptop monitor)

Hi, I'm really happy to have this chance to be able to contribute something.
I ran the vbetest tool on my Dell Inspiron 6400, with a Mobility Radeon x1300, for the following resolutions:
800x600
1024x768
1280x1024
I'd also like to mention that my native resolution is 1680x1050, but this wasn't a mode I could find in vbetest. I hope the end driver will someday support 1680x1050, but I guess you have to prioritize things.
Also, when I booted into text mode and ran the vbetest tool the first time, after seeing the pretty coloured checkerboard pattern, all the text was missing when I returned to the console... that is, it looked like a blank screen, but I could still type and issue commands. Furthermore, I could see the background colours for coloured commands like "ls" (my "ls" has background colours for certain file types), but I just could not see the text. So I was working blind, but I still managed to run the other two tests, and each time I would see the coloured checkerboard pattern, and then return to the blank textless console.
Anyways, without any more talk, here are my results:

Best of luck in your development of the avivo driver!

Hi, I'm new here.
I tried to use vbetest and it didn't work:
- Ubuntu 7.04 (booted in recovery console, no X, no ssh)
- Motherboard: Asus M2R32-MVP (AMD64 Socket AM2)
- Graphic cards: 2x ATI X1950PRO (R570?) (with internal Crossfire connectors)
I never achieved to get the display pictures. It always end with a warning saying I have to be in console to change resolution (actually I am)
As a side note, fglrx gives me a blank screen with my two cards in crossfire. A common solution seems to be to turn on to the open-source radeon driver. Unfortunately, the radeon driver doesn't support X1950 so I have to wait for avivo. Otherwise, fglrx works fine with only one card connected.
I also removed the power cord of the second pci card and tried vbetest again. Same result.
If anyone as an idea, I'd be happy to be able to help the avivo team.
I don't know what the Ubuntu recovery mode does, so try typing
init 3
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
rmmod fglrx
rmmod radeon
I hope that helps...

Thx, it worked :)
I'll edit this post later about the way I proceeded with Ubuntu and will try a way around the issue mentionned by Peter Cruickshank about the blinking cursor and no display after vbetest run.

are the console framebuffer drivers interfering with this one (e.g. vesafb) ? do they also need to be disabled?
I had a problem, too, after running vbetest. I couldn't read anything, so I just typed gdm and then after it started quit it again.

Some more results, a Dell Inspiron 6400, ati x1400, 1680x1050 display.
http://www.thump.dyndns.org/vbetest
All modes were tested and are available as individual files, or in a tarball.
The native resolution of my display 1680x1050 is not a supported mode. That would be really nice to have.
If there is more I can do to help, please let me know.
Some output from a Lenovo T60 (x1400).
http://www.dresco.co.uk/linux/x1400-t60.tgz
Where vbetest showed two mode numbers for the same res/depth then I've included them both..

Jon.

I made dumps on my Thinkpad T60p (firegl v5200). The console got corrupted after showing the image - it wasn't showing any characters, only the mouse pointer and the place of typing. So I rebooted each time to get a new dumb.

I have pushed code which program the TDMS like the BIOS does (at least on few dumps i did take a look at), so please if you did have any issue previously with DVI-I, laptop panel and avivo try it out.
Thanks, those updates have addressed some banding weirdness I was seeing at 32bit colour depth (on a T60/X1400).

that improved things a lot (t60 x1300 1024x768). Its almost useable. There is strange distortion (it looks like the screen is frying!.
I tried to screen capture, but the capture shows a perfect image.
below is a link to my vbe modesetting dumps - i am guessing the problem is that native res. of the laptop is 1024x768

I have a native 1920x1200 display, however the BIOS does not seem to know that mode?!?
Download my results from here (http://download.butonic.de/Ati%20Mobility%20FireGL%20V5200%20-%20M56GL%20Results.tar.bz2).
I put in all (8:8:8) Modes. However, when booting to single user mode vbetest keeps telling me to run it from the console?!?
So, I booted with the avivo driver (latest version from today), switched to the console and got these results.
Hope it helps, and thanx fore the nice work!

Did vbetest on a Lenovo Thinkpad Z61m with an ATI X1400 in it.
Could not find a mode corresponding to the native resolution of 1680x1050, but did the others.

Hi
I'm running a T60 with X1400.
Trying vbetest before fglrx or X loaded the test does not work, I see no colored screen and get the same result for all resolutions:
http://www.file-upload.net/download-380117/x1400-1400x1050.txt.gz.html
In the last line it says "To switch video modes, this program must be run from the console" though I was in console before loading fglrx or X.
When switching from X with fglrx driver to console and using the tool with my native resolution 1400x1050:
http://www.file-upload.net/download-380119/x1400-10400x1040-with-fglrx-X.txt.gz.html
PS: The current avivio driver version (git from today) freezes my computer (first some color flicker, then black screen) so I have to hard reset.

We no longer need dump, by reading phoronix you should know that AMD as now released documentations. See phoronix.com, you could try one of the two driver now supporting your card either radeon or radeonhd.
