I found this on the Gentoo forums and it appears to have worked for me!

Like the poster on the Gentoo forums, I'm using the Opengl output on Kaffeine, AMD64 Debian Testing, Radeon Mobility x1400.

I can confirm this on my Radeon X1600, but only on the DVI output. The analog output still shows video tearing.

Anyway, that's a huge improvement since my projector is connected to the DVI output :)
