Phoronix is already on top of this probably, but I thought I'd drop a line and let everyone know that I have been in contact with Clemens Ladisch who is working on the CMI8788 driver.

He is now in possession of an asus xonar and is well aware of the distorted output of the ALSA driver. He has made it one of his top priorities to correct this bug within the next few weeks.

Soon ALSA will have a respectable CMI8788 based driver for cards such as the Razer AC-1, Auzentech X-Meridian, Bluegears B-inspirer, Asus Xonar, Sondigo Infero and any others I may have left out.

Nice. It seems alsa hasnt supported any new highend audio chip for a while now. A shame the x-meridian is no longer for sale. now can creative make a damn driver for the x-fi already. I wonder how the xonar performs compared to the x-meridian.

New beta driver. Has been completely rewritten and supports upmixing to side and rear channels.

I'm going to give this a go and see if it sounds any better.
