Phoronix: Six Days To Ubuntu 8.04 Alpha 1

It's been just over a month since the release of Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon, but the first alpha release for the next major Ubuntu release, Ubuntu 8.04, is now less than a week away. We shared with you back during the Ubuntu Live conference that Ubuntu 8.04 will be a Long Term Support release, similar to Ubuntu 6.06 LTS.

Interesting, currently the kernel headers for 2.6.24 are not working at all and the linux-ubuntu-modules are basically empty. And you need at least aufs or unionfs and squashfs to boot a live cd ;) Can't wait to see a working kernel...

I generally like how Phoronix is very up to date and reports even little progress with for example the radeonhd driver. But this news entry is about nothing really. You don't have to report that you will report that 8.04 alpha1 is out once its out... we'll notice that.

Well, it's of use to: 1. Ubuntu fanboys 2. People who may be looking to try out Ubuntu, but if they know there is a new testing release coming out soon, they may be prone to try it 3. just being aware that it's coming down the pipeline

4. Something for the lack of news.
5. Michael is now using Ubuntu, too. Well, that could be 1..
