Hi all, it's been a while since I last messed with the ATi drivers and their installation from the reference package from AMD. Anything I should be aware of? Due to other reasons (WLAN) I will have to build a custom kernel, and as such will fall outside of the scope of prepackaged drivers from my distribution. I understand that now there is a graphical installer. I'll read around whatever I find (like the HowTo over at Rage3D) and learn whatever I can. However I would like to know if the reference drivers do overwrite system files (like some X files, GL library, etc).

A possible problem is that it doesn't currently work with the 2.6.25 kernel but 2.6.24 should be fine.

I think the installer only overwrites the Mesa libraries. ati-config --initial will change your xorg.conf.

I'm more concerned about X related stuff than configuration files. Besides, I usually do my Xorg.conf manually ;), but I am concerned about the Mesa part, specifically which files does it overwrite so I can replace them with the correct files or packages when I move to my distribution provided packages. Thanks for the info, though.

Looks like it only replaces /usr/lib/libGL.so* with links to /usr/lib/xorg/libGL.so.1.2. Which is installed by the driver.

this is the file list create by the installer http://pastebin.com/m215700e3
