I just installed ati8.3 drivers for my 9800, now everything works, even compiz..
however, i can't play too many videos on youtube or the system gets into an hard crash..
it is compiz problem or another crappy release from ati?

i find out more..
with ati driver i have pixel problem in compiz or not..
beside that the system keeps freezing..
so i was right..
its just "another crappy release" directly from ATI :D
I wonder if the cards are made "so good" like the drivers how come ati has not gone out of business?

The problem with youtube videos is not related to drivers. Its actually a problem with adobe flash in Linux.
I haven't really experienced many problems with compiz with fglrx 8-3. Its a little slow at times but thats about it. I don't even use compiz anyway, except for testing.
I don't know what could be the cause of your freezing. But if you're using a 9800, why not just use the radeon driver? If you get freezing with that theres definitely something else wrong. You could also try upping your AGP aperture size to 256 or 512, whatever is the maximum in your bios. I hear that helps stabilize things on AGP systems. But of course that may do nothing.
Your other option is to try lowering the AGP speed from 8x to 4x. I had to lower the AGP speed on my x1600XT in order to get it to work properly, even when I tested it on Windows a while back.

hello
i have been using radeon drivers till now, but they are FAR slower than fglrx (1800fps against 6300fps on glxgears) and perform worse with compiz.
i am already on AGP4x but i found better to reduce the memory from 128 to 64..
help to get less crashes!
Increase AGP voltage a bit.

hi kano and thanks
but how can i increase AGP voltage if there is nothing to increase it?
i think i found two swollen capacitor near AGP that might cause some ripple and those kind of problems..
i will remove them and change with new high quality ones and see if the problem persists!
