The title is a little confusing. I almost thought Intel was going to destroy x86 and that Tremont would be a completely new thing...

Same. It turns out Tremont is the Nth iteration of the same old tired x86 with a massive 5% performance increase over 2 year older gen if you look at the benches just right.

Well there will be a up to 30% more performance for virtualization workloads due to meltdown fixed in HW, wait for the advertisement!

Too soon for that imho. This thing was already designed when the vulnerability went public.

Cascade Lake is the architecture that will contain the fixes for Spectre V2 and Meltdown in HW, and "8th Generation Intel® Core™" whatever that is.

8th gen is some of Kaby, some of Coffee and Cannonlake so they won't. That entire generation is a bit all over the place almost like Intel ran out of steam and is making it up with marketing (https://www.anandtech.com/show/12607...psets-and-vpro)

So the microkernel with the former vulnerabilities didn't get rewritten in Rust for this new CPU? Shame.

Well Intel said themselves that their new "Virtual Fences" that should fix Meltdown and Spectre V2 should come in the 8th gen core to be release in the second half of 2018: https://newsroom.intel.com/editorial...silicon-level/ of course trusting that Intels sais is not high on the list right now

These changes will begin with our next-generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors (code-named Cascade Lake) as well as 8th Generation Intel® Core™ processors expected to ship in the second half of 2018. As we bring these new products to market, ensuring that they deliver the performance improvements people expect from us is critical. Our goal is to offer not only the best performance, but also the best secure performance.
