    Sadly not up on docker hub yet. Would fit perfectly in the few places where alpine does not cut it.

      Isn't this just another name for JeOS? That's what I used to use last time I ran Ubuntu VM's - this was round 10 years back though.

        Says in the original article there is.

        Tiny container base image

        The 29MB Docker image for Minimal Ubuntu 18.04 LTS serves as a highly efficient container starting point, and allows developers to deploy multicloud containerized applications faster. For modern Docker workflows with Kubernetes, the minimal Ubuntu image provides a balance of compatibility, familiarity, performance and size. This is the standard Ubuntu 18.04 LTS image on the Docker Hub.

          How is this different from Ubuntu Core?

            Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. I pretty much default to Alpine now for Docker images but in the rare cases Alpine isn't sufficient this will be nice. Guess we just need to wait.

            Unfortunately it's not yet.

            Code:
            $ docker pull ubuntu:18.04
            18.04: Pulling from library/ubuntu
            Digest: sha256:5f4bdc3467537cbbe563e80db2c3ec95d548a9145d64453b06939c4592d67b6d
            Status: Image is up to date for ubuntu:18.04

            $ docker image list --filter reference=ubuntu
            REPOSITORY TAG IMAGE ID CREATED SIZE

              29MB for a Docker container sounds pretty good.

                If you're looking for the images for your cloud provider, these minimal ones are not (yet) available on the Ubuntu image finder site (with URL beginning with "cloud-images..."). Instead, they are available in the listing of public images within your specific cloud provider. For instance, the one for AWS can be found via (AWS login required):

                (This link is specific to AWS region us-east-1, but you can either alter the URL or use it and change regions from within the AWS console, if you wish)
