Wouldn’t ARM be required for an open desktop? Even ARM though suffers from the issues around GPU drivers.

Given al of that I’d be happy to see an AMD APU in the desktop. Very reasonable performance for a low to midrange desktop. With today’s chip tech a decent desktop can fit in a very small case.

Who buys assembled desktop PCs these days anyway, especially in the Linux user base? What I would be interested in, though, is an open source notebook that's not a Clevo rebrand.

Currently, there are very little ARM-powered system that are supported by a fully opensource stack.
(Hence Librem needing to fall back on a older and less powerful Freescale iMX 8 for their Purism 5 smartphone).
Nearly all desktop/laptop class ARM cpus come with a Android-only blob GPU driver.

An AMD cpu is about their best bet currently, the management engine is about the only required blob (what was the name in AMD's terminology ? FSP ?)

Hell, I would settle for an open-source notebook that is has an AMD CPU/APU/GPU. I don't care if it's a Clevo or not.

And Raptor is preparing new POWER9 desktop box too! To be unveiled next week in Amsterdam on OpenPOWER Summit. Interesting times...
