These updates are being called "OTA" but they are not from your carrier "over the air" as they were before. They are simply extending the same naming structure that Ubuntu used.

So it appears that these OTA updates are only available via ADB and are not aligned to either carriers or manufacturers as the previous "over the air" updates did.

If anyone has data contrary, please post here.

Testing any issue should be easy. On your device:

1. Head to System Settings -> Updates -> Update Settings -> Release Channel
2. Select rc
3. Go back to the Updates screen to install the downloaded update

After your phone reboots, you'll be on the OTA-6 release candidate! Of course, only step 3 is required if you are already on the rc channel, this update will come through as normal.

If you have one of the original Ubuntu Touch phones, you need to update it over ADB with the installer they created once, as they can't migrate the channels. This is however super easy, no expertise is required, it will tell you exactly what to do. Once you have done that you will get the updates automatically as before over the air.

Also the carrier really had nothing to do with this. Before the updates came from Canonical, now they come from UBports

You do not need to change to RC channel, UBPorts devices will slowly get the update automatically during the next 4 days

These updates are being called "OTA" but they are not from your carrier "over the air" as they were before.

On my BlackBerry KEY2, the Android updates come directly from BlackBerry. My carrier doesn't even know what type of device I have (okay, maybe they do know when reading logs, but not officially). So "over-the-air" isn't something only carriers use. It simply means that the update is downloaded to your device over a wireless network connection, rather than updating using a computer tool.
