Phoronix: AMD MI200 "Aldebaran" Linux Driver Support No Longer "Experimental"

Back in November AMD announced the MI200 accelerator that has seen its Linux open-source driver support developed under the "Aldebaran" codename going back to February of last year. The AMD developers are now removing the "experimental" flag from that Aldebaran class GPU support...

Any chance to see consumer grade GPUs with OAM form factor? (or at least some Radeon Pro that can be found at retail market).

The MI250X is such a nice hardware it is very sad that AMD thinks we do not need it on Desktop/Workstation.

even if someone buy a 6900XT on the Desktop the MI250X is still superior performance.

It really depends on your workload, this would not be a good gaming GPU.

it is no GPU at all... Its a ComputePU... and yes it depends on your workload...

Radeon pro w6800 is not good enough? At least that's what I understand AMD is offering for workstations ... Everything SXM form factor is server only.

IIRC the issue is power consumption - the MI250 uses more power than a typical PCIE/CEM card can provide.

the W6800 is RDNA2 and not CDNA-...

I know ... yet AMD is still advertising it as a rocm development environment for code that will run on MI CDNA accelerators ... That's why I'm curious.

what does more power mean ?? why not do water cool it like these water cooled 6800/6900 cards..

                    like this one... https://geizhals.de/sapphire-toxic-r...loc=at&hloc=de

so what is the problem ? just make it 3x 8 pin 12_V... or 4x 8pin 12v then you can make it 800watt TDP...
