Phoronix: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Will Default To Wayland With NVIDIA For v510+ Driver

A change that had been expected but finally buttoned up in time for next month's Jammy Jellyfish release: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will now default to using the GNOME Wayland session when running the NVIDIA proprietary driver. The caveat/limitation is that's only the case when using the NVIDIA 510 series driver or newer and not when using any of the older legacy driver branches...

How good is Nvidia support in wayland today?
Luckily I don't have Nvidia, so I'm just curious ...

No gamma ramp control for Wayland in NVIDIA driver yet. So no night mode.

You can drive down that road now, but the ride will be bumpy and parts of your body will feel very violated after a while.

No, I'm pretty sure a compositor crash will kill your desktop session under Wayland regardless of GPU vendor.

Likewise for things like your password manager auto-type or xdotool not yet having been re-implemented on top of the accessibility APIs.

Yes, because AMD drivers are perfect, in fact, they're famous for it.

                    Not.
