Fingers crossed for the Fall distro releases (Ubuntu, Fedora) to include Qt 5.15.6.

Fedora will include it much sooner, in fact Fedora 35 and 36 will get it in a few weeks at most.

Even with this delayed open source release stuff it's still better than gtk.

I hope to see the KDE patches rebased on top of it as soon as possible!
Hopefully the next KDE Plasma version will be built with it.

Is this release a year out of date with updates too?

How does it compare to the maintained kde qt branch over at https://invent.kde.org/qt/qt/qtbase/-/tree/kde/5.15 which has gotten updates as recently as last month?

In practice a number of distros may be, for some use cases, essentially ahead of 5.15.6, as they have been including the KDE team's curated set of backported patches from the upstream sources.
