Phoronix: Zink OpenGL-On-Vulkan Driver Enables Shader Object Support

Introduced one month ago in Vulkan 1.3.246 was the new VK_EXT_shader_object extension that was worked on by developers from Activision to Valve. Zink lead developer Mike Blumenkrantz at Valve has been busy the past few weeks on getting this shader object support wired up for use by this OpenGL-on-Vulkan driver...

Currently, with AMD GPU, to Zink or not to Zink? When comes to performance?

Zink still has significant overhead in most apps/games. Stick to native OpenGL if you don't notice issues.

Yep but in a near future, we can drop gl drivers and only care about vulkan + zink.
Loosing a bit of gl perf here and there, to get in exchange a world that focuses mainly on modern vulkan drivers and softwares, I take it.

It's very close but slightly faster on radeonsi, although Zink may have some advantages (or issues) this test doesn't measure. This is Mesa 23.1-rc2 on 5800X3d + 6800 XT so may be better on rc3 (I don't have time to test until next week).
