Darn. They should have gone with a logo of a big 'F'

It would be the ultimate power move.

Would it be Facebook OS? Fedora OS or openSUSE? No-one would know!

Agreed, although since it's more detailed it wouldn't work as well at smaller sizes. They should at least make that a banner or something

What a mess. Tumbleweed already has one of the best logos of any distro, and it makes logical sense! The new geometric ones are crap. Seriously, what is the MicroOS logo supposed to make you think of? How does it have any brand identity? Some of the submissions like A031 are visually very nice. But if they are going to go with that chosen design for Kalpa, and AO05 tied for first for Tumbleweed, they should just embrace some brand consistency and adopt all the designs from Nikolayan, including rebranding MicroOS / Aeon / etc.. Some things don't work well if left up to committee or popular vote. OpenSUSE needs a new strong leader. As a user, it's frustrating when they have such an awesome base to work with, but seem to be flailing around.

Ok, if the openSuse community thinks that is a better recognizable logo than before, have your fun. Can't save everyone.

Yeah they really should have made the contest about a logo family, but to keep the barrier down (some people won't have the time to perfect final designs for eight logos) accept entries where not all the logos in a family are polished final designs. Have the vote to inform a committee how to narrow it down to maybe three families. As part of voting, the community should be required to include feedback with their choice, specifically: "how could this family be improved?" The committee is important because if the community spreads a lot of votes over two or three very similar concepts, they can use the feedback to judge whether it is worth asking those two or three designers if they would be willing to collaborate on a joint final submission - the last thing you want in the final vote is some or all nearly identical choices (John Jackson, Jack Johnson, and Richard Nixon's reanimated head in a jar). The committee can also judge if the feedback indicates desires that cut across families, eg. the tumbleweed logo to incorporate some sort of figure-eight or infinity symbolism. The finalists then go off and use the feedback to polish their logo family and then the final vote is held. If all goes as it should it would be a choice between family designs that are internally consistent in their design language and distinctive enough that voters don't get lost in the individual logos: "I like the tumbleweed logo in this family, but this other family has the better leap logo..."

But A031 for Tumbleweed makes now no sense.

The author have created a set of that icons:

                  Opensuse_logo_concept.png Thumbleweed_logo_concept.png Kalpa_-_color.png Slowroll_-_color.png Leap_-_color.png

As you can see, thay making only sense together.

At the end also is the section "Full Design Themes", where you can see additional sets:

                  OpenSUSEcollective.png Ailyaut.png Overview_by_pprmint..png

                  ... and others

I think it would be better, if there would be voted for complete sets.
It makes also no sense, to have one logo from one set with one style and the next logo from an additional set with a complete different style, etc.

Imagine LibreOffice would have for Writer, Calc, Draw, Base and Impress completly different icons with different styles.

I agree with the others. I think they should veto the entire contest and extend it with emphasize on full logo sets that complies with the following:

                    - Coherent and consistent logo family
                    - Clear indication of release schedule (and other essential attributes)
                    - Readability at small scales
                    - Scalable vector-friendly design format (scaling well from small to large formats)
                    - Simple, but effective, not too complex. Few colors and details. Important in terms of size scaling, vector-friendliness and intuitive readability
                    - Easily and clearly conveyed across cultures all over the world (different cultures perceive visual cues differently. Perhaps a difficult challenge to tackle)

Now it looks like a confusing mess. If done right, you should understand what the distro flavor attributes and its release schedule just glancing quickly at the logo.
