Phoronix: For At Least One Game, Mesa's NVK Driver Can Outperform NVIDIA's Proprietary Driver

In at least one game running on Linux via Proton Experimental, the Mesa NVK open-source Vulkan driver paired with the latest Nouveau reverse-engineered kernel driver is delivering better performance than NVIDIA's proprietary Linux graphics driver...

Never thought I'd see the day when a FOSS driver is outperforming NVIDIA proprietary ones.

vulkan performs better in cpu bound situations? you dont say, i am so shocked. Anyway, open source vulkan everything.

The difference is just the driver, vulkan-nouveau vs nv blob, everything else is the same: cpu, gpu, linux, game, settings, proton (so both use vulkan) ... just saying.

that is not what the title says. " Mesa's NVK Driver Can Outperform NVIDIA's Proprietary Driver".
Meaning an opengl/dx title using mesa opengl/dx -> NVK vs nvidias opengl/dx driver.

I read that word as Jo Ever and not Joe Over. For some context, my cat's name is Jo Jo and he's the real Sleepy Jo.

Where did it say "opengl" ? NVK is a vulkan driver.

So we're comparing Vulkan driver performance: NVK vs. Nvidia's Vulkan blob driver.

For OpenGL it'd probably be: NVK+Zink vs. Nvidia's OpenGL blob driver.

Edit: Ah, found out it's an Unreal Engine 3 DirectX game so somewhere here comes wine/proton + dxvk, for both sides, into the play, too.
Running UE3 on Linux is pretty difficult, though.

Hat in time is running gl or dx, i believe is not a vulkan title.
Well if its run on proton and proton uses zink or dxvk then i am wrong to infer what i did from the title.
But just want to say the vulkan drivers of nvidia and amd were never good in the first place on any platform.
And as said its probably faster because there is some stubbed functionality making the image rendering different.
I just dont see the point of the comparison for now.
