    Recently I've been testing out the Scaleway's Elastic Metal RV1 (EM-RV1) RISC-V cloud servers. Initially they were using Ubuntu 23.10 for providing an up-to-date Ubuntu Linux RISC-V experience while quickly upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. For those curious how Ubuntu 24.04 is performing on RISC-V hardware, here are some comparison benchmarks.

    It's a bit disappointing that this still uses the RV-V 0.7.1 draft version.

      I feel a Rasbperry Pi would be a better point of comparison than an AMD cloud instance. Although I do wonder how much compute you would get with x86 or ARM for the same hourly price.

          There aren't any shipping CPUs with (working) rvv 1.0. They went with the least bad option here

            True until recently, but not anymore.

            Banana Pi BPI-F3 is shipping, with spacemiT K1, a 8-core RVA22+RVV 1.0 SoC.

              it has gpu, vpu, npu , I will take advantage from there, RVV 1.0 is wip on implementation side

                Interesting. Haven't heard of that CPU before. Too bad it only comes in 2/4GB ram. I suspect Scaleway is targeting people wanting to build software. 4GB just won't cut it in those cases (for the most part anyway). Wonder what the Linux support looks like. I see a 6.1 bsp kernel which is better than most. If their assertion that it's ~1.3x the performance of an a55 core-for-core, I'm looking forward to seeing this CPU show up in better boards.

                  Would be interesting to get benchmarks of RISC V chips next to ARM chips. Like the M2 and ARM Cortex A53 (in pinebook pro).

                    didn't matter too much in this case, but in the graphs it's very random which version is top or bottom which makes it hard to skim through
