Phoronix: There's An X.Org Driver For Nested X Servers

Announced just hours ago on the X.Org development mailing list is recent work to create the xf86-video-nested driver. As implied by the name of the driver and the title of this news post, this is an X.Org video driver designed to run nested X.Org servers. In other words, X.Org on top of X.Org...

    a 4th nested solution?

    Congratulations to the developers.

This, in addition to Xnest, Xephyr and vnc?
I'm pretty sure even these others support window-in-window.
I know it's early, but what benefit does making this a driver get us?

How about presenting advantages to xnest or xephyr?

Two possible advantages that I see off hand:
1.) It's not a hack (I don't know if zephyr is or not, but...)
2.) Better performance (because it can interface more directly with the server; similar to the virtualbox guest video driver)

Of course, I have no idea what I'm talking about, so take it with a block of salt. ;-)

That's a lot of lines of code just to nest X within X!

Hopefully, as Xephyr already support it. I use it to debug composite manager and performances are better then full X (due to the lower resolution and having a single screen instead of 5)

You can find some screenshot of Compiz in Xephyr on Google if you want to see it with your own eyes, or just test it

It seems only half that is code. They pushed a whole bunch of autotools files and misc build cruft too. Quite a rookie mistake...
