    While this is nice to see, I don't think it's as important as Havoc's suggestion of an animation timing mechanism (the paint clock--there was a bit of activity a little over a year ago, but I haven't seen anything else since). Wayland is a long way off from displacing X (even with the understanding that X can run inside of it), IMHO.
