Phoronix: Debian 8.0 To Be Frozen, Features Announced

The Debian Release Team has announced the Debian 8.0 "Jessie" freeze date along with the proposed release goals for this next major update to the Debian Linux distribution that also continues to maintain a FreeBSD kernel option. The Debian 8.0 news came just a short time after releasing Debian 7.2. Debian Jessie will look to expand upon systemd support and LLVM's Clang as a secondary compiler option to GCC...

Michael, you didn't read the announce, did you?

    You wrote this:
Debian will be frozen for Jessie beginning the night of 5 November. This freeze date in less than one month will allow Debian developers to focus on bug-fixing and meeting Jessie's goals for the successor to Debian 7 Wheezy.
    But the announce says:
We are happy to announce that we will freeze Jessie at 23:59 UTC on
    the 5th of November 2014.

Seriously, this is Phoronix. Mr Larable is far too busy writing his 10,000 'articles' and finding ways to put a few dozen links to semi-related previous 'articles' into each one to actually check the basic underlying facts of each one...

I'd be far more inclined to subscribe to Phoronix if there were 30% as many articles, but each one of them contained some amount of analysis and context. When each 'article' is nothing more than a collection of misinterpreted out-of-context facts from a single blog post or email, what's the selling point over an RSS reader?
All those internal links make it annoying merely as a way to find interesting original posts, because the OP link is hidden among them.

And you might actually make more ad money with less ads, because I can't imagine how anyone could possibly use the site without blocking them. When every few words is a popup and there are semi-NSFW video ads with sound embedded in random articles, you can't expect people to stay on the site.

      [/semi-constructive rant]

What does "hardening of ELF binaries" mean?

All opinions are my own not those of my employer if you know who they are.

Actually to defend Phoronix here the article does state its next year, we are just being given the heads up.

Erm, no, it's been silently edited to remove the 'less than one month' and add '2014'. Most reputable news sites would at least add an [Edited] or [Updated] tag, but this is of course Phoronix...

                Nice features.

What about Wayland adoption and Gnome version?

Totally agree. Michael, it's okay to make mistakes. It's even better to admit them.

That's just not really what Debian exists for. Fedora tries to advance technology. Debian tries to deliver a useful system.
