To no great surprise, AMD is cooperating with The Khronos Group to allow them to incorporate portions of their Mantle graphics API into the next-generation Khronos graphics API...

Well, good to hear that! DX12 and Metal are already quite like Mantle, so we will soon have four APIs with the same architecture. Quite useful for devs!

Good. OpenGL has been mismanaged and stagnanted for years. Good on AMD for showing them how it is done. Just don't copy their code line or line, their linux driver is awful.

It isn't anything exceptional; it's how Mantle can be more than a marketing gimmick.

But what if they have patents in the mantle spec, and start to enforce them in five years from now ?

"AMD will impose no restrictions, nor will it charge any licensing fees" from article.

agreed, without this mantle will end up sidelined in 18 months time. might as well make the investment live on.

Hey AMD (bridgman ). You know what will be even cooler than that. A G3D implementation of the new API the day the first card supporting this hits the market. And VP9 and OpenCL. And i will exchange these with money.
