      Can it be installed for kernel version higher than 3.13 without patches??
      And if yes until which version?

        Yes? (>= 3.14 defined in source); but I can't install it on my hd7970 "Your graphics adapter is not supported by this driver...". Is it safe to force the installation?

          Who knows I think it probably isn't tested on cards diferent to R9 285 it probably should work on the other GCN GPu but it could have issues with them. I wouldn't install it on systems without use as test/experiment system. you couldn't complain if your system didn't work afterwards, sinc support isn't advertised.

            I have it running on my AMD E-350 APU (HD 6310). No restrictions.

                Linux 3.15 works out of the box. Haven't tried 3.16.

                    FYI: Only works for other ASICs when updating from a previous Catalyst

                    From the Arch Catalyst maintainer: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/catalyst-test/

                    About the new catalyst 14.30:

                    Once again Phoronix missed the truth. Phoronix wrote:
                    AMD put out the "Catalyst Software Suite for AMD Radeon R9 285" for Windows and Linux. While it's aimed for the R9 285, the driver will work with any supported Radeon GPU.

                    But it's not designed to work with cards other than 285.
                    It will work if you are updating, but it won't generate xorg.conf on systems with cards other than 285. aticonfig will say that they are not supported. So it does sucks for newcommers.

                    Look at the size of the control file:
                    $ ls -l 14.30/common/etc/ati/control
                    -rw-r--r-- 1 user users 312 08-29 15:54 14.30/common/etc/ati/control
                    $ ls -l 14.20/common/etc/ati/control
                    -rw-r--r-- 1 user users 89984 07-11 11:46 14.20/common/etc/ati/control

                    It has just one line...

                    That's why I won't update neither this nor catalyst-test-pxp nor the repo.
