    Great!

    Now the only thing remaining is for GLAMOR to be heavily optimized to outperform like SNA and XAA.

          Not on intel... unless they start making faster 3D graphic chips.
          Sna is really fast, even on old gen hw.
          I think Glamor is most useful on modern AMD/nVidia cards with relatively weak 2D performance.

            Keithp was under the impression, at one point, that it could given enough time. That's why they were so impressed with the early galmor optimizations.

              OpenGL(GLAMOR) is too CPU/GPU inefficient to be fast as SNA.

                What about xa? Is it supposed to be faster than glamor, using gallium directly without OpenGL?

                (xa) : (glamor) = (gallium-nine + wine) : (vanilla wine)

                  X has no XAA any longer (for quite a while now). But it should be added back, imho. Many old graphic cards that used to work "fine" are now working only unaccelerated (NoAccel in xorg.conf), which is really a PITA.

                  It seems that xserver-xorg-video-mach64 is broken in Lubuntu 12.10. After the upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 MACH64 video driver crashes, causing infinite loop at boot: starting desktop manager, X server crash, restarting desktop manager, X server crash, restarting desktop manager, X server crash, etc. It is impossible even to switch to text console. I found a workaround - booting in rescue mode, mounting filesystem read-write and creating the file containing lines ------------------------------...

                    He's likely talking about XA (as in the Gallium3D state tracker for 2D - http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...+state+tracker) not the X Server's XAA.
