      The basic idea is that it allows a wayland client to queue frames with timestamps. Not only do the timestamps permit smoother playback since the frames contain the "when to display" information, but the compositor can now synchronize the video with the audio.

        I don't know if the compositor should be responsible for such things, but the end result sounds great! Perhaps it needs to know timestamps for latency reasons...

          Uh? Does the compositor has access to the audio?

          Now if both the video and the audio flows are tagged, then the end result is a better synchronisation indeed.
