So, Intel and Nouveau uses a piece of AMD code before AMD does? Haha!

Well, AMD used a piece of Intel code (Glamor) before Intel, too

        Really?

Really? What are reasons to make specific API for AMD hardware? Perhaps, Gallium3D will be universal driver for any device. I don't know.
Ok. good stuff from Gallium3D. may be nv support will be better soon.

It's not an AMD-specific API, just a vendor-independent extension we added to the Catalyst driver a few years back.

Other vendors thought was OK and decided to use as well. The "AMD" string in the title means that we proposed the extension, not that it's necessarily AMD-specific. It works both ways -- there are extensions proposed by other vendors that we support in our drivers.

If there is broad support for what was originally a single-vendor extension then it could get replaced with a formalized multivendor extension (GL_EXT_*) or even a Khronos standard extension (GL_ARB_*). AFAIK that usually happens only if there is a desire to change the interface -- if not, then the extension tends to stay as single-vendor even though multiple vendors are using it.
