Phoronix: HP's The Machine Prototype Coming Next Year, But Is Proving Less Exciting

Earlier this week I was pondering the state of HP's "The Machine" and Linux++ with the Linux++ software platform supposed to come in June of 2015. Not much information has been heard on these experimental projects, but now there's some new information coming out...

Well maybe they should focus on developing for HURD instead, since it's going to be ready by the time the Machine arrives.

Sounds like the only output of The Machine, is speculation and hype. Yawn. The engineering dept. at HP has been brain-dead for more than a decade now. All the real talent was laid off or sold off after the DEC & Compaq mergers. All that remains is hollow shell full of marketing and sales people. No thanks!

Forget memristor technology. All they need to do is hire a couple of more people in the marketing department and everything will be golden.

It's not quite cornflower blue, but it will do.

inb4 The Machine is PC with their custom Linux that emulates ~the future~ quantum computer or whatever they are trying to sell.

Not too surprising. HP has set as requirements for the completion of the Machine solving several major fundamental advances in ee. I really hope they succeed but I'd be more confident if it were IBM doing the work. They've got both the talent and money and facilities needed to pull this off.
For an idea of how many things would need to work in order for HP to pull this off think of it like they are, simultaneously, trying to build Goliath, Transistor Computer, IBM 704 (gm-nna io) and CTSS/PLATO II.
