Awesome, this was probably the only thing getting in the way of Star Citizen being ported to Linux.

          New platform: Linux

As previously announced, we are adding Linux support for your Game.exe. While you will still need Windows to use the Sandbox Editor, you can now release your commercial games on Linux as well as on PC- and of course, there are still no royalties whatsoever!
In short, it's not a new platform if you have to use Windows to use the Editor.

Its a new platform to target. Unity doesn't run on Android, iOS or PS4, yet it is a supported platform.

Developers will use windows for developing and the primary target will be consoles. Additional builds are just a possibility and good to have.

The announcement even considers Linux a console platform, i.e. non-PC:
"you can now release your commercial games on Linux as well as on PC"

Because PC apparently equates to Windows despite that being technically untrue. Any time a game says they "support PC", they mean they support Windows.

True, but that is towards consomers.
An engine is targetted at developers/producers, people I would assume understand that PC is a category like console, with different platforms each
