        Very cool and very simple to implement (although it does require some small kernel changes). Many cloud/grid developers have come up with similar deterministic schemes for IPs, though they have to implement in on their own. Very useful to have it "just work" in the same places you configure your network usually.

        Cute that it's designed to work specifically with virtual private networks in rented clouds (like Amazon).

          Thanks canonical making those IP blocks permanently unusable on the global internet.
          I guess that's one way of pushing IPv6 forward.
