Don't use GTK/Qt and rewrite UnitySDK in UnityGUI looks like a good idea

Among the issues encountered have dealt with the editor not supporting case-sensitive file-systems, poor handling of compiler macros in the past for Windows/Unity, and making wrong assumptions about compilers and native applications.

That sounds like the typical mess Windows-only developers would create.

The level of ignorance at work there is always puzzling. No matter which other platform people develop for, it is never that bad.

That thing will probably never be ported in the classical sense, more likely rewritten.

        I know, right?

The gaming industry (for a long time) still seems to have this problem.

Meh. Any large app getting ported to another platform always has these types of issues.

Look at any linux app getting ported to Windows for the first time and you'll see the same thing.

Don't worry, they aren't alone in these issues. Photoshop, which as been on the Mac platform from day one, still can't be install and used on a Case Sensitive HFS+ filesystem. The Adobe team's response? they have tried working with Apple, but they just can't get it to work.

The only reason we don't have access to the Linux test build yet is because they are still trying to port or replace the most critical part of Unity... The fscking shit DRM that ensures it remains a kids plaything rather than a decent tool.

The company I work for even went so far as to pay me to reimplement much of the core engine (as Mutiny 3D) since the DRM in Unity is so short sighted and impossible for us to futureproof for our uses. The cool thing was that Mutiny 3D exported to Web browsers / Javascript via Emscripten long before Unity 3D did

didn't microsoft release the sourcecode to .net for linux recently or something? If so then surely using mono isn't a good idea?
