Does this mean we'll be able to fire up a Wayland-based KDE session from SDDM like you can a Wayland-based Gnome session from gdm in Fedora 21?

Yes, you will able to do that, If the 0.12 will be included in F23.
But is not like GDM: they use the wayland version by default, even to launch the X gnome session, whereas the SDDM will use the X version (the only one, atm) even to launch the kde wayland session.

Does anybody know if they have support for rootless X?
Once they have the Wayland greeter I guess they have it but do they have it now?

And cudoos to the sddm team. Since the announcement of wayland, I am waiting for a pure wayland based greeter to finally get rid of X needing root rights for the greeter.
