C&T died in 1997 (was bought by Intel, is this what lead to the GMA series?), there top model would just barely be able to run 1024x768 in full color mode...

I'm pretty sure Intel bought them just to eliminate their x86 license, but they did jointly develop the i740 for Lockheed Martin, after which is when Intel bought them. Lockheed need a chip capable of running their simulator.

I love reading about projects like this. I wish I could learn this. I'd take the time to write drivers... but maybe I don't know what it really envolves.

It involves a lot of trial and error and reading some obscure documents, it's actually not that hard in the end as long as you can program (any language pretty much) to a resonable degree. My only advice is to give it a shot. I would my self if i had the time

If you don't know how to program then then start learning how to do some applications in C, there are tons of tutorials out there.
