I'd actually recommend Godot more for beginners.

Sounds good. Down with browser plugins! They're annoying platform-specific blobs, usually only available on Windows.

So... um... Pillars of Eternity, Kerbal Space Program, Cities: Skylines and Sword Coast Legends are amateur work at best?

Nice list. I'll add Hearthstone (A Blizzard Game) , Ori and the blind forest (have you seen that game? It's freaking gorgeous) , Monument Valley , Superhot (indie) and a bunch of mobile games. Unity is a GREAT game engine. Maybe it has some faults but it has come a lot of way and still continues to improve.

all of those run like absolute crap, this does not help your argument
the loading screens in Pillars get so bad that people have just quit playing over it waiting for it to be fixed(its been months and not fixed.) It's because the scene loading/unloading API in Unity is nearly as old as the engine itself(going on 10 years) and needs rewritten from scratch at this point.

Unity is a poor engine because they said fuck the desktop market about 3-4 years ago and it was solely optimized for iOS. Unity games have awful performance and are the butt of a lot of jokes in gaming communities. There's absolutely zero reason to use unity over UE4 at this point.

He didn't say the game/gameplay was crap, he said it RAN like crap. As in, even on decent hardware there is horrible loading times and lower fps than one could get with a better engine.

They're continously improving the engine and many games were built on the older unity 4. I think Vulkan integration will further help on a number of newer or updated games to take advantage of that.

                    >Hearthstone (A Blizzard Game)

                    Why no linux port...

                    >Unreal engine

Is pretty laggy on a number of games too. Also needs optimizing / Vulkan integration.
