AMD will not go bankrupt. They'll just continue to shed jobs, cut costs, and have a much narrower focus. Like they are doing now. Even if they went technically bankrupt, another company like a Samsung or a Chinese firm would just buy them up if for nothing else the x86 stuff. Plus the U.S. government will not allow Intel a monopoly in the x86 space.

With a lock on the video game console market ( PS 4, Xbone 1, and the upcoming Nintendo NX ) a lock on the embedded x86 market ( think kiosks, gaming and gambling machines, and digital signage, medical tech ) and a renewed focus on performant x86 cores ( ZEN ) AMD has some life left in it.

I believe this patch is for this series of new embedded APUs:

Michael should have made it clear in the article.

Stoney seems to be an AM4 APU with Excavator cores. But this is unconfirmed.

AFAIR, the x86 license from intel was lost, if AMD was bought. Thus, I highly doubt that AMD will be bought. More likely is a huge investment in AMD and some kind of joint venture.

Edit: Never mind, I guess this info is outdated.

No, the new R-series SoCs are already supported in amdgpu. This is something different.

Yes but what? I'm having a hard time figuring out where or what chip it is located in.
