gnome builder is definitely nicest IDE i ever used. mostly design wise where it doesn't look like space shutle cockpit like other IDEs out there.

once vala support irons out, it will probably be more or less most of my IDE use

Ah, so this is what you were talking about. I guess I'll have to play with it some as opposed to just looking at pictures but... just on looking at screenshots I prefer my "space shuttle cockpit". Different stokes for different folks though I guess.

well, i have to admit i'm probably different than many people. first thing i really love about it is that it doesn't want to be everything. i hate cluttered IDEs by default since i never use most of the features, but what i really need and what i can't get from them is screen estate and flexible editing

and there is a thing where every IDE is trying to do everything and then that everything is always halfassed. like for example
        - project creation. each and every iDE is so mediocre in this respect. still, as far as typical user goes, seeing how builder approaches to it might be really strange as in only has support for new from file system and new from git. until you realize that devassistant is just brilliant in that aspect since scripting custom project creation is a breeze.
        - refactoring. i'm yet to see any IDE beat well crafted one liners in command line by using perl

I installed it after reading your comment, and I agree, it is very beautiful. I always used (g)vim and never tried using an IDE, but I'll definitely give this a chance.

            i'm glad i helped

well, changes in 3.20 should be really big even for builder standards and his crazy fast evolution.
