Phoronix: Linux 4.2 Ubuntu 15.10 HDD Tests: XFS Leads Over EXT4, Btrfs

With recently having picked up four Western Digital Black HDDs, I decided to run some fresh hard drive benchmarks with the most common Linux file-systems to see how the performance compares atop Ubuntu 15.10.

"Leads over ext4"... in synthetic benchmarks only. Compile bench shows the real winner.

it would have been nice to throw in ZFS benchmarks too

Thanks! Been EXT forever. XFS intriguing.
Looking forward to RAID benchmarks, mdadm?

ext4 is still the most well rounded (performance wise) filesystem of the lot. If you aren't tuning fs performance for anything specific, go for ext4. It is almost never a bad choice. Performance wise it is a very consistent all-rounder.
I plan to stick to ext4 as I have yet to see any compelling reasons to change for the average typical workstation workload (varies a lot).
