We've heard AMD is planning a large Catalyst driver update for this month and now more details are coming to light. Meet the Radeon Software Crimson Edition, which will hopefully be out for the Linux driver too...

Looks nice and the only logical explanation for AMD using Qt is to make the driver control center cross-platform. We'll see what comes of it but as we all know, the control center is probably the least of the worries when it comes to proprietary Radeon drivers.

It is just a rewrite of their settings dialog that shouldn't have any impact on driver performance.

Cool for Crimson... but does fglrx will change its name?

Mostly interested to see what will this allow... as previously many settings were hidden from the average user.

Another useless GUI with the design as if PC were a fucking tablet >_< I'm 95% sure that it still will hide most of the settings as before or even more and will repeat same menu items under different categories. Now with the hipstery "monochrome" look !

Which is why EA's Origin is available cross platform... oh wait....

No while that's a logical explanation for them using Qt, and while it wold allow them to do so, you have to remember that Qt isn't like GTK, Qt is actually an extremely popular toolkit to use on all platforms so it could always just be that.

Would it be possible for AMD to make this kind of software capable of interfacing both with the propitiatory and open-source drivers.
Would be good if it was an optional thing for open source users too. Especially considering that's the longterm direction of AMD...

Apart from that the big glaring feature omission for AMD on linux is freesysnc support. Would be great to get an update on that.
